A Note About Information Overload

It can be very easy to become overwhelmed by all the tools available through Web 2.0. After this course - YOU DO NOT HAVE TO MAINTAIN EVERYTHING!

  • There is no rule that says you MUST blog once a day, twice a week or even once a month. Yes, you must blog while you're in this course, but after that, it's up to you.
  • There is no rule that says you MUST love Twitter and use it every day. I don't like Twitter, I tried it and I decided not to use it. It's okay.
  • There is no rule that says you MUST read RSS feeds every day. If you choose to follow blogs this way, its best to try and set aside time to go through them, read what you want to read, and clear out the rest at least once a week. If you don't, it can become overwhelming. If you fall behind, you are not required to go through every single blog post that you missed!
  • There is no rule that says you MUST enter every book you read, are going to read or have read on LibraryThing.

I could go on, but the most important thing to remember is that the tools you learn about in this course are all tools that you can choose to use or not. Some of these tools will work better for some people than others. Think about your lifestyle, your goals, and the way you learn best, and then decide what you can realistically keep up with after you complete this course.
